Well, let me tell you, real estate runs deep in my veins. It's like the very foundation of who I am. You see, it's a family affair—my folks, my grandparents, they were all in the game, making deals, managing properties. It was like breathing for us, you know?
Now, my grandma Frances, she was the one who got me started on this journey. She'd take me along to her deals, teaching me the ropes from a young age. And then there was grandpa Al, a real property guru. He showed me the ropes of real estate investing and even got me hands-on with some light construction work. Painting, electrical, plumbing—you name it, I was there, learning the ropes.
But life's a funny old thing, isn't it? While I was knee-deep in property management, another passion came calling: music. Now, I may not be the next Elvis, but I sure can hold my own with a guitar or drums. But it was when I discovered the magic of mixing music that things really took off. Parties turned into gigs, gigs turned into paid gigs, and before I knew it, I was running my own music business at the ripe old age of nineteen.
For three decades, I was the heart and soul behind Nelson-Entertainment, a Mobile DJ & Wedding Event planning company. What began as a simple hobby blossomed into a thriving business, and I had the privilege of orchestrating over 2000 weddings and countless other events. From humble beginnings, I learned invaluable lessons about entrepreneurship and the art of service.
But life had more in store for me. Ten years into my DJ career, I joined forces with my mother in the real estate business. Watching her navigate the industry, from land acquisition to home construction, was an education in itself. She didn't just sell homes; she cultivated genuine connections with her clients, becoming more than just their REALTOR®—she was their trusted confidante.
Inspired by her example and the arrival of my son, Wyatt, I embarked on my own real estate journey. Balancing my DJ gigs and property management duties, I laid the foundation for my fledgling real estate business. In 2003, my wife Ailina and I made the leap to San Diego, drawn by its inviting climate and vibrant community. La Jolla stole our hearts, offering the perfect backdrop for our new chapter.

We have "staycationed" here and we've had many family and friends vacation here over the years. It's one of our favorite places to hang out as locals. Recently, I learned of The Club at San Diego Mission Bay Resort and so I called up my friend Shari Stauder, Director of Membership and asked her to sit down for a chat so we could spread the word about The Club.

We are a premiere San Diego Resort, located on picturesque Mission Bay! San Diego Mission Bay Resort, where we invite you to indulge in the sun, sand, and so much more located in the heart of San Diego. Here you’ll enjoy waterfront dining, endless outdoor activities, luxurious spa treatments, poolside relaxation, and – best of all – proximity to everything you could want to do in our vibrant city.
WHAT IS SOMETHING MOST LOCAL SAN DIEGANS WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT THE RESORT?
The Mission Bay Resort has a private CLUB, which is available to locals who want to enjoy our facilities, just like they are on vacation in their own city! Locals join the club and pay monthly dues to enjoy a multitude of items including: Tennis & Pickleball, Yoga, Pools & Hot tubs, Fitness Center, Family Activities, along with discounts at our Restaurants, Bars, The Spa, Water Sport Rentals, overnight Rooms, and even One FREE Night Per Year! Not only that, some locals are surprised to know that you need not be a Club member or overnight guest to come by anytime to enjoy our restaurant/bars and listen to the nightly live music!

What do you love most about the neighborhood?
I personally enjoy the fact that I can enjoy walks along Mission Bay on my breaks and cross the freeway to enjoy the many shops, restaurants and businesses on my lunch hour or after work.
What are your favorite restaurants in the neighborhood?
I shop at Sprouts for lunch and groceries sometimes and enjoy places like Luce and The High Dive on Morena Blvd.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I've been with the San Diego Mission Bay Resort for over 11 years because I truly enjoy working here, the staff and our wonderful guests!
Why do you think it's important for people to shop local?
Supporting each others businesses is great for the community at large. If the businesses in Bay Park thrive, our neighborhood becomes a sought after place to open new businesses that support and serve our neighborhood/community. It's nice having all the services you need so close to home, especially as traffic increases on the roads.
