Well, let me tell you, real estate runs deep in my veins. It's like the very foundation of who I am. You see, it's a family affair—my folks, my grandparents, they were all in the game, making deals, managing properties. It was like breathing for us, you know?
Now, my grandma Frances, she was the one who got me started on this journey. She'd take me along to her deals, teaching me the ropes from a young age. And then there was grandpa Al, a real property guru. He showed me the ropes of real estate investing and even got me hands-on with some light construction work. Painting, electrical, plumbing—you name it, I was there, learning the ropes.
But life's a funny old thing, isn't it? While I was knee-deep in property management, another passion came calling: music. Now, I may not be the next Elvis, but I sure can hold my own with a guitar or drums. But it was when I discovered the magic of mixing music that things really took off. Parties turned into gigs, gigs turned into paid gigs, and before I knew it, I was running my own music business at the ripe old age of nineteen.
For three decades, I was the heart and soul behind Nelson-Entertainment, a Mobile DJ & Wedding Event planning company. What began as a simple hobby blossomed into a thriving business, and I had the privilege of orchestrating over 2000 weddings and countless other events. From humble beginnings, I learned invaluable lessons about entrepreneurship and the art of service.
But life had more in store for me. Ten years into my DJ career, I joined forces with my mother in the real estate business. Watching her navigate the industry, from land acquisition to home construction, was an education in itself. She didn't just sell homes; she cultivated genuine connections with her clients, becoming more than just their REALTOR®—she was their trusted confidante.
Inspired by her example and the arrival of my son, Wyatt, I embarked on my own real estate journey. Balancing my DJ gigs and property management duties, I laid the foundation for my fledgling real estate business. In 2003, my wife Ailina and I made the leap to San Diego, drawn by its inviting climate and vibrant community. La Jolla stole our hearts, offering the perfect backdrop for our new chapter.

Cody & Kensey Decker met, fell in love and got married while working in the pet industry and then relocated from the Los Angeles area to San Diego's Bay Park, where they opened two Decker's Dog & Cat stores in both La Jolla and Bay Park and fast became neighborhood favorites of the very pet-friendly communities!
Decker's offers very healthy fresh and dry foods, quality toys and products and excellent family-style customer service - you're always greeted with a smile! I highly recommend bringing your pet with you - they get spoiled!

Where are you originally from?
Cody and Kensey met long ago both working in the "pet world." Cody owned a pet shop in Venice Beach and Kensey would visit him as a client. Kensey was working for a premium raw pet food manufacturer at the time. Years later they married, moved to Bay Park in San Diego!
What made you decide to open this business?
After moving to San Diego, we opened our flagship store in La Jolla. A beautiful gem on the coast of California known for it's breathtaking views and marine life.
The second store opened in 2021 in beautiful Bay Park, CA. The wonderful pet-friendly Bay Park community located above San Diego's famous Mission Bay in San Diego was an obvious choice! The Decker's Bay Park is located in the newly remodeled Sprouts shopping center on Clairemont Drive with lots of convenient parking.
Why did you choose this profession?
With a background in the pet industry: Cody and Kensey own 7 rescue pets- 5 dogs and two cats. Their focus on animal health and animal nutrition is outstanding and their desire to help others with their pets is evident.

What Is Your Philosophy?
Forget the boring long isles of the same generic pet supplies. Our goal is to always to find something better - or find the best products to offer. We are a small business based in San Diego, CA, and a husband and wife team. We are proud to give back to our communities and most importantly helping pets.
Shopping for your pet should also be fun! We try to create a visually appealing, well stocked, and unique store layout in each location! Our selections are seasonal and on trend. You can trust you are always getting fresh products, and that our staff only want the best for your pet!
What is something most people don't know about the business?

They love the variety of quality products we carry; fresh and healthy food choices and fun toys, accessories and gift items to name a few. And it can't be overstated: we truly appreciate their business and they feel that when they shop in our stores.
How long have you lived in the neighborhood?
We have enjoyed many years of Bay Park living!
What were the factors that made you choose this neighborhood?
We were already living here in Bay Park and we saw an opportunity to fulfill a need for the many pet owners in this neighborhood and beyond - something a "big box store" just couldn't offer. We love our locals, but get a fair amount of people that travel to both our stores from afar, so we feel this location is very convenient for those that commute to us too!
What do you love most about the neighborhood?
We love the people, fellow business owners and lifestyle that Bay Park, with it's amazing Mission Bay & Pacific Ocean views offers. Bay Park is a community made up of wonderful small businesses and very pet friendly neighbors!
What are your favorite restaurants in the neighborhood?
We enjoy many of the Bay Park restaurants and I suppose we are regulars at The Farmer's Table given they are conveniently right next door to us LOL!
What are your favorite things to do in the neighborhood?
We enjoy walking our dogs through the neighborhood, the restaurants and of course having Mission Bay at our doorstep and all it has to offer!
Anything exciting going on that customers should know about?
YES! We host one of San Diego's largest annual Halloween Costume Contest for your pets at our La Jolla store
and of course our annual store-wide Black Friday Sale is very popular too!
