~ Amy Stewart, MPT

What made you decide to open this business?

I opened my own practice in 2018 and started teaching at the Jones Institute as a Teaching Assistant in 2022 to help train others how to understand and use this modality to not only fix the symptoms patients are coming in with, but also to find the root cause of someone's problems and correct them.

How did you get started?

I am the founder of Stewart Physical Therapy and hold both a Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree and a Master's degree in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University. I have been a physical therapist for over 20 years and have worked in multiple different settings within physical therapy; including inpatient and outpatient neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation, outpatient sports rehabilitation, home health, inpatient and acute care. Since then, I have dedicated myself to enhancing my skills through continuing education coursework which emphasized a comprehensive, holistic approach to treatment. My extensive knowledge and manual therapy education has led me to where I am today.

What is something most people don't know about the business?

My Physical Therapy Clinic specializes in the use of Fascial Counterstrain.

Strain Counterstrain is a hands-on Osteopathic technique that removes protective muscle guarding and pain reflexes from fascial connective tissue throughout the body. Diagnosis is performed through assessing the bones of the skull for rigidity that tell the practitioner where in the body and what system is dysfunctional. Tender points are then used to identify which structure(s) have been strained.

Treatment is given by placing the body in positions of comfort and/or fascial tissue is stretched in a direction of ease and held for 30-45 seconds. This allows for a quick return to your normal state of pain-free mobility, and function. This method is gentle and profoundly effective when applied by an experienced practitioner, even when all other treatments have failed.

What can Counterstrain help me with?

Post COVID

Alleviating and/or eliminating pain

Headaches

Concussions

Low back pain

Restoring lost motion/ improving flexibility

Enhancing your immune system function

Assisting with clearing sinus pain/congestion

Getting rid of numbness and tingling

Helps sleeping and "brain fog"

Increasing strength and endurance

Improving Posture

Draining of swelling

Retraining poor movement patterns

Improving digestion

Getting you back to your favorite activities is our main goal!

How Do Clients Prep for Sessions With You?

Please wear loose fitting clothes to each session and make sure to drink plenty of water afterwards. Most clients come one to two times per week while the are recovering from an acute injury. Once you have recovered from the acute injury, I highly recommend coming once a quarter for maintenance, however this is not mandatory.

Who do you treat?

I have treated patients of all ages from newborn babies to one hundred year-old's. After the initial evaluation, together we will set a treatment plan that will work the best for your recovery.

What would your customers say they love most about your business?

Here are just a few of my testimonials I've received:

Amy has worked on my entire family for everything from acute injuries to longer term chronic issues. She is effective and thorough. Her approach addresses the cause and doesn't just treat the symptom resulting in long term improvement and has truly increased our quality of life. My husband calls her a witch doctor, but he keeps going back because she provides results! I believe she has been gifted with healing hands and couldn't recommend her more. Thank you for all you do! -Claire

Writing this review is so easy because I’ve already been telling everyone how amazing Amy is and how she healed me in 15 min of pain I had been suffering for 3 weeks straight after falling while running. I didn’t understand how much pain swelling could cause. A mutual friend informed me of Amy’s “magic hands” so when I found the opportunity to meet her, she was so generous with her God given gift! Without a second thought she worked her “magic” and I could painlessly close my hand for the first time since my ridiculous fall. I am sooooo thankful for her gift and talent!! - Jessica

I am married to a medical doctor who is skeptical of non traditional techniques. Nevertheless, what Amy has done for our family has been life changing, for the better. Not only has she helped our son, but she has helped me. I have a 5 year old son who has had asthma since he was very young.

Managing is health was challenging due to his chronic upper respiratory infections & airway complications. Daily inhalers, rescue medications, nebulizer treatments, croup, steroids, sleepless nights...the list goes on and on. When Amy told me about her techniques & treatment plan for our son, I was hopeful. My husband was skeptical, but open to “try it out” with very little expectations of it actually working.

When Amy worked on our son, he was actively sick. In fact, he had been treated that week with oral steroids, (in addition to his daily inhaled steroids) because of his asthma. He had had a cough for two months at that point. After she worked with him, within a week, his cough went away and there was a remarkable improvement in his breathing. Fast forward to now, our son is now off of his daily inhalers, has only used albuterol ONE time in six months and his asthma specialist signed off on him as a patient because he’s doing so well.

A month before Amy changed the course of my son’s life, he had been praying to not have to take medication everyday anymore. Because of Amy, my son is medication free and able to run around & play without needing his inhalers.

Amy was also able to help me out when I broke my foot. I had a bad break, and had a great amount of swelling & bruising due to the injury. My foot was in a lot of pain due to the swelling. Amy worked with me, and immediately, the swelling decreased. Within a couple of days, the swelling was minimal, the bruising got better, and my pain drastically decreased. I can’t thank Amy enough, for what she has done for our son & myself. I am a firm believer in what she is practicing (so does my previously skeptical husband), and anyone would be lucky to have her work with them. It may not be “conventional medicine”, but it works. I would recommend Amy to anyone, and not just because she’s a friend, but because what she is doing works.
